Admission Details:

The University of Port Harcourt School of Public Health is the pioneer School of Public Health in Nigeria. Lecturers in the School have diverse academic and field experiences in the public and private sectors, and are drawn from within and outside the University of Port Harcourt.

The School invites application from suitably qualified candidates for admission into the following graduate programmes for the 2024/2025 academic session.

  1. Doctor of Philosophy (PhD) programmes in Public Health and other specialties including Epidemiology, Health Systems Management, Population/Reproductive Health, Occupational Medicine, Health Promotion and Communication, Public Health Nutrition, Health Information Management and Community Health
  2. Doctor of Public Health (DrPH)
  3. Master of Public Health (MPH)
  4. Master of Science (MSc) programmes in Community Health, Environmental Health, Occupational Medicine, Epidemiology, Health Systems Management, Population/Reproductive Health, Health Promotion and Communication, Public Health Nutrition, and Health Information Management
  5. Postgraduate Diplomas (PGD) programmes in Public Health, Community Health and Health Information Management

Admission Requirements:

Post Graduate Diploma (PGD): Minimum Duration: Full time (12 months); Part-time (18 months)

Applicants shall be required to have a good University degree, or HND with a minimum of upper Credit or Higher Diploma in Community Health or its equivalent with at least a Credit pass in the professional examination

Master’s Programmes: Minimum Duration: Full-time (12 months); Part-time (24 months)

Candidates would be required to have a minimum of a first degree in medicine or first degree in fields related to the programme, with at least a CGPA of 3.00 on a 5-point scale or its equivalent. Holders of a post-graduate diploma (PGD) in public health with a CGPA of 3.50 are also eligible.

The master’s and PhD programmes in Occupational Medicine are open to only registered medical practitioners, while the programmes in Community Health and Health Information Management are open to only persons registered with the respective professional registration boards - Community Health Practitioners’ Registration Board of Nigeria, and the Health Records Officers’ Registration Board.

Doctor of Philosophy (PhD) Programme: Minimum Duration: Full-time (36 months); Part-time (48 months)

Eligible candidates for these competitive programmes must have completed a master’s degree in appropriate majors, with a CGPA of 3.5 on a 5-point scale.

Doctor of Public Health (DrPH) Programme: Minimum Duration: Full-time (36 months); Part-time (48 months)

Candidates admitted into the DrPH programme must have either masters/doctoral degree in a subject appropriate to the course of study; or Membership (Part 1)/Fellowship in Public Health from the National Postgraduate Medical College of Nigeria, or its equivalent. Additionally, all DrPH candidates MUST have a minimum of five years post-NYSC experience in a Public Health position.

In addition to the above requirements, candidates for all the programmes must also satisfy the minimum matriculation requirements of the University of Port Harcourt.

  2. Create and activate a personal account on the website (an activation link will be sent to your email after creation of an account)

  3. Login to your account, Click on the Admissions Menu, Click the APPLY BUTTON next to the advert. Scroll to the end of the page and CLICK THE NEXT APPLY BUTTON.

  4. A Payment Page will be shown. Choose your preferred method of payment.  Click on Make Payment/ Pay the non-refundable application fee of Thirty Thousand (30, 000) into the School’s Bank Account OR ONLINE VIA CREDIT CARD. ONLINE Payment ensures Instant activation to fill the form (merchant charges apply). Bank Deposit/Transfer payments takes a minimum of 48 hours for portal activation

ALL EVIDENCE OF BANK PAYMENT MUST BE UPLOADED ON THE PORTAL BY CLICKING THE SUBMIT PAYMENT BUTTON, SELECT DATE OF PAYMENT AND UPLOAD THE EVIDENCE OF PAYMENT.

 

      5. Fill the Application Form online

      6. Upload on the website (https://admissions.uphsph.edu.ng) the required documents using the DOCUMENTS UPLOAD MENU. (Academic Credentials starting from the least (WAEC/O-LEVELS to your most recent qualification, Curriculum Vitae, Birth certificate, NYSC Discharge Certificate )

      6. All hard copy transcripts should be sent to the school using the transcript label which will be available after application. Soft copies of transcripts can be sent to transcripts@uphsph.edu.ng.

      7. Referees’ remarks/comments should be filled online by the referees through a link which will be sent via mail

      8. The Application Form and the accompanying documents should be uploaded/submitted on or before Friday, 28th February 2025.

Applicants would be invited for oral and/or aptitude tests before admission is finalised
